“LotusLive is IBM’s enterprise applications challenge to Microsoft Windows Live “

So .. what’s an enterprise applications challenge ? and why put this in relation to Microsoft Windows Live platform which is consumer oriented ?

Microsoft has recently turned Business Productivity Online Services (BPOS) into production which is Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Office Communications Online and LiveMeeting. So if IBM looks to compete in business (whatever size) this would be a more appropriate comparison to make.

  1. Luke,
Office Live is a consumer / individual oriented service extension to MS Office. (Wow did I just type that 🙂 ).
It is *not* aimed at enterprises. Microsoft Online Services is.
I do agree with you that integration with 3rd aprty solutions can be of benefit to perhaps some smaller organisations. For the short term I do not see integration with Linked In and Skype being preferred by large SME’s / Enterprises to be honoust.
Should organsiations already be using SF.com or HyperOffice than that could be seen as an advantage if not there not much value add.
Bottemline for me is that many organistion first want to implement a good platform for comms & clollab before they reach out to 3rd Party integration …

  2. Office Live would be a more apt comparison – since both at definitely corporate oriented. LotusLive’s advantage is that it is allowing integration with many good third party solutions like skype, linkedin, salesforce, hyperoffice etc. So if a user wants to enhance a certain aspect of their solution, they have a wider choice than just the features built into LotusLive. If they want enhanced contact management they have Salesforce, if they want to also be able to publish and design intranets and extranets they have HyperOffice, Skype can help enhance the conferencing experience.
