IDC and Market Insight Corp. conducted a brief survey of online shoppers of mobile phones to determine consumer interest in the iPhone. Respondents were asked if, and why, they might purchase the iPhone, and how they might use it. According to IDC analysts Shiv Bakhshi and Chris Hazelton, the responses suggest that the cost of acquiring the device — including both the price of the device (sans mobile operator subsidy) and the potential cost of switching carriers — may be an issue.
