(P)review Medion Multimedia UMPC RIM 1000

A Dutch site, Pocketinfo.nl, features a review of a new UMPC which will be released in the June/July timeframe. To be honoust I have not worked with an UMPC yet and what primairly has held me back with regards to purchasing one was the fact that when the first generation hit the market running Windows XP, I was already working with Windows Vista. Well, the new ones have Windows Vista, so that's not an excuse anymore ;-), than there's the price : 999 Euro's which is very expensive still when you compare it to a good laptop for example. For the multimedia experience Microsoft has created Origami Express which is sort of a Mediaplayer / Mediacenter type shell which allows for easier navigation.

The test is in Ducth so the English speaking folks have to do it with this picture :

Medion stuurde ons de nieuwste UMPC op om er een korte blik op te werpen. De Medion Multimedia UMPC zal medio juni/juli op de markt verschijnen, maar op Pocketinfo.nl hebben we nu al een review.

Microsoft werkt aan Origami-pc met Vista

De eerste Origami-umpc's (ultra mobile pc) liggen nog niet eens in de winkel of Microsoft denkt al aan een volgende versie van de architectuur, die dan op Windows Vista draait. De huidige Origami-pc's werken met een speciale versie van Windows XP. Microsoft wil de Vista-umpc's onmiddelijk bij de introductie van Vista lanceren.

Samsung Q1 UMPC Available for Pre-Order

Wow, $1400 is very expensive if you ask me ...I hope there will be some competition soon that will drive the price down ...

No sooner do we tell you about the TabletKiosk eo UMPC hitting the market, does Samsung step up and make their Q1 UMPC available for pre-order as well (via GearLive). Are you hoping that this UMPC will best the $899 TabletKiosk offering in price? Well, you best keep hoping because as of now, the pre-order for the Q1 is £799.95, or about $1400 US greenbacks. Nope - that is not a mistake, at least not of the typing variety. More...
