For the second consequtive day a spammer has posted up to 30 comments promoting shoes of a certain brand ... Don't you just hate that ?
So for now I have turned the review feature for comments on .. ofcourse all normal comments will be published asap; unless you're selling shoes ...

John DeVaan and Steven Sinofsky have started a new blog dedicated to the engineering of Microsoft Windows 7 :
… Welcome to our first post on a new blog from Microsoft—the Engineering Windows 7 blog, or E7 for short. E7 is hosted by the two senior engineering managers for the Windows 7 product, Jon DeVaan and Steven Sinofsky. Jon and Steven, along with members of the engineering team will post, comment, and participate in this blog.
Beginning with this post together we are going to start looking forward towards the “Windows 7” project. We know there are tons of questions about the specifics of the project and strong desire to know what’s in store for the next major release of Windows. Believe us, we are just as excited to start talking about the release. Over the past 18 months since Windows Vista’s broad availability, the team has been hard at work creating the next Windows product. …

I haven't read anything about this yet. While checking my feeds I saw Steve's post on this.
A whole day without a PC ... it's a saterday, so that should help ... I do wonder how many people can/do/will ... I'm in ...
The clock is ticking towards Shutdown Day and if I can turn off my computer for a day I’m sure you can :)
Shutdown Day is a Global Internet Experiment whose purpose is to get people to think about how their lives have changed with the increasing use of the home computer, and whether or not any good things are being lost because of this.
The idea of Shutdown Day project is simple - just shutdown your computer for one whole day of the year and involve yourself in some other activities: outdoors, nature, sports, fun stuff with friends and family - whatever, just to remind yourself that there still exists a world outside your monitor screen.
So why not join me, Jeremy, Frank and a few others? Find out more

Welkom Matthijs ..
... Hallo, mijn naam is Matthijs Hoekstra. Microsoft Services is in Nederland ongeveer 120 man/vrouw groot.
New World of Work visie. Ons team is nu 13 personen.

While browsing the NewsGator site on FeedDemon I noticed that the new 2.6 version is released. It includes a number of improvements over my current version :
Reading Feeds
Newspaper Format: When you select a channel, FeedDemon's tabbed browser displays the channel's news items in a newspaper for easy reading. You can display a newspaper of news items for an entire folder or view one feed at a time.
News Bins: Store news items in a central location and provide a handy way to collect items from different channels. If you find an interesting item that you might want to read again, just store it in a news bin for future reference. News Bins are synchronized through the NewsGator Online platform, so you can read these items from FeedDemon on other computers as well as other NewsGator readers.
Synchronization: Read a post in FeedDemon and it is marked as read in other NewsGator readers.
Shared Experience: See what news is popular with other NewsGator users and find out who is linking to the news you’re reading.
Video: Watch embedded video right within the newspaper view.
Panic Button: Ever gone on vacation and gotten a little behind on your reading? The Panic Button solves this and many other problems by quickly marking all older items read.
Finding Feeds
Watches: Look for keywords in news items as they're downloaded. After you create a watch, it examines every incoming news item whenever any channel is updated.
News Comes To You: Subscribe to feeds from all over the web or choose some of the dozens of default feeds.
Search: Search outside of FeedDemon's subscriptions by selecting a feed search engine, then enter your keyword, and FeedDemon will subscribe to a dynamic channel containing the search results for that keyword.
Other
Podcasts: Powerful podcasting tools enable you to download audio files and automatically copy them to your iPod or other media player. The bundled FeedStation utility enables you to schedule your downloads so they happen overnight while you're asleep. When you wake up, you'll find new audio waiting on your media player of choice.

Peter O'Kelly posted something interesting about Newsgators client products :
FeedDemon is, imho, the leading XML syndication client; now it's also free
As part of an effort to help bolster its enterprise business and provide more relevant content to users, NewsGator Technologies Inc. today announced that all of its consumer RSS (Real Simple Syndication) client applications are now available without charge.
The list of free applications includes NewsGator Inbox, FeedDemon, NetNewsWire and NewsGator Go for Windows Mobile, Blackberry/Java, iPhone and HTML mobile applications, as well as NewsGator Online, the company said. All include free synchronization across the Web, desktop and mobile devices, NewsGator said.

I am a feedDemon user for almost 6 months and I agree with Peter that this is the best RSS client app out there.
The integration between FeedDemon and NewsGator Online is fantastic and the fact that you can work with Newsbins which can be shared through an RSS feed is great. The Comments Elsewhere on my site is basicly a newsbin RSS feed I share on my blog.
FeedDemon is great : Go and get it ...
I wonder if NewsGator gives me a refund, I am afteralll Dutch :-)

Sasa is onze security guru ... Welkom in de blogoshpere Sasa :-)
Forefront-producten:
Microsoft Forefront Client Security
Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server
Microsoft Forefront Security for SharePoint
Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server

Last Monday I commented to a post by Stuart McIntyre on his
The post was an attempt to compare the vision and solutions of IBM against Microsoft's with regards to social computing. In the post Stuart made a claim that IBM Lotus Connections was ...
... "deployed in hundreds of organisations around the world and being used daily by many thousands of users." ...
A day later the IBM presentation on Lotus Connections he referred to got pulled from Slideshare.net :
And the apparently Stuart pulled the entire post ...
What happened Stuart ?

I have decided to remove Snapshots from my blogs because they are turning from a free, very cool feature to a very cool feature with an advertising model. I completely understand Snapshots motivations and drive to earn some cash, but I don't want to be a part of this money making game ..
... Today at ad:tech and Thursday at BlogWorld, Snap Shots is making two big announcements:
- We're adding advertising to Snap Shots.
- We're sharing with the sites that make Snap Shots possible.
For the last year, we've been giving it away.
Starting today, it's time to share. We launched Snap Shots a year ago on November 14, 2006, and have been giving your website users better web experiences by the billion. And millions of sites around the world agree--a better user experience made them better websites.
As it turns out, a better user experience also makes for a better advertising experience. Which makes sites like yours, with Snap Shots on them, very attractive to advertisers, particularly when you're part of the new Snap Shots Advertising Network. ...
... With Snap Shares, we share a portion of the advertising inventory within the Snap Shots with you so that you can:
- Have Google serve ads via your Adsense account
- Display your own ads
- Give to a non-profit
We've decided to partner with Google (and soon others) to handle your share for a very simple reason: we don't have the resources to properly administer this type of program and they do. It also means that you won't have to deal with a new team and a new set of rules and regulations regarding your advertising payments. ...

I have been having discussions with a number of colleagues over the last few weeks about blogging. A lot of my colleagues would like to start a blog, but they don't know if this is their "thing" and whether or not they can continue to be motivated to blog. Ofcourse they can just start a blog and see what happens.
While brainstorming on the options I thought of asking a few of them to become a guest blogger on my blog. Everyone of them is an expert in their field and know more about certain topics than I do (and that's not hard I hear you say ;-) ).
I am still not 100% sure if and how it will work, but on the other hand why not give it a try ... start small with 1 or 2 guest bloggers and see what happens.
I hope to introduce them to you soon ...

I am not a heavy SlideShare user (yet), but I like the service very much.
One reason is that you can easily share your presentation (even with PPT download) with a large audience and also publish it in your blog.
Also you can browse other presentations on all sort of topics through categories or search and that way you can often find what you need.
When going through the service today I found that they also provide something that was new to me : slidecasting. A combination of your uploaded presentation and a podcast, how cool is that ...

So on my todo list for the coming weeks is to mess around with this service and create a slidecast :-)

Because I did not, I missed out on having more and better site stats. The current limit (as I am a freebie user) for StatCounter is 100 pageloads; per May of this year it was increased to 500 pageloads.
I finally made the change this morning (and I subscribed to the blogs feed :-) ), better late than never ...
StatCounter - Now 5 Times Better - FREE!

We’ve been busy in the background optimising our systems to allow us to bring you even more for FREE.
We’re very pleased to let you know today that every StatCounter project now comes with a log size of 500 - you guessed it - FREE!
This means that you can now drill down into the detail of the last 500 pageloads on your site. And, of course, you still have LIFETIME summary stats on ALL your visitors. ...
... Here’s what you have to do now:
Free Members:
To increase your log size, log into StatCounter and click the wrench icon beside your project. Click ‘Adjust Log Size’, and enter 500 in the box. Click ‘Adjust Project Log’ and you’re done! ...

Lots of changes with regards to my blogging setup. As I "announced" earlier this week, there will be a new design for my blog.
Next to that I have switched RSS readers. I now use FeedDemon of NewsGator,( I will explain the how and why later this week).
What FeedDemon / NewsGator also provides is an easy way to publish my blogroll and so I did, along with the setup of a few new pages. As of today, my blogroll can be found at: http://www.peterdehaas.net/blogs-i-read.html.
For one its a good way of returning the favour to many readers who have kindly listed me in theirs. For those who have not (yet) hope you will do so ;-) ...
